| About John Ritter Jonathan Southworth Ritter was born on Sept 17th 1948 in Hollywood California to his parents Country star Tex Ritter and Dorthy Faye John was a student at Hollywood High school, and was Student Body President.During High School John pondering wanting to be a baseball player or politician when he got older but always came back to his first love of acting John went on to get a BFA degree in Drama at the University of Southern California. Upon graduating from USC John began his acting career. His debut came on the tv show Dan August. From that time leading up to 1977 John appeared in dozens of tv shows, such as Rhoda, Mary Tyler Moore, MASH, Hawwaii Five-0, Starsky and Hutch, The streets of San Francisco, and played the Rev.Fordwick on the Waltons, and had a cameo on The Bob Newhart show as a funny Ice Cream server named Dave But it was his role as the lovable Jack Tripper that made him a break out star. orignally reluctant to take the role fearing that the storyline for the show would run out of ideas, John took the role as the bumbling but lovable Jack and ran with it. The success of the show and his acting ability led to Three's company being a commercial success in a little amount of time. By several weeks time Three's company had hit the top ten, and never looked back as it climbed to the top show in America thru the late 70's John earned an Emmy for his portrayal as Jack.John also earned a Golden Globe Three's Company ran for a total of 8 years until 1984 During the off season in 1980 John was able to make a ABC made for tv movie titled "Hero at Large" a warm hearted comedy that had John starring as a struggling actor who takes the role as a Capt. Avenger to make ends meet, but soon takes the title of superhero a little too serious. John went on to star in a spin-off titled Three's a Crowd for one season. From there John went on to appear in dozens of guest spots on tv shows and starred on the show Hooperman, and appeared on the big Screen in the late 80's in Blake Edward's "Skin Deep" In 1990 John took the lead as the dad Ben Healy in the hit " Problem Child" there on the set of the movie he met his future wife Amy Yasbeck. The following year he followed it up once again with Amy as his co-star oddly enough playing a different character in Problem Child 2. From there John made a guest appearance on the cosby show with Amy, and then starred in Hearts A Fire with Markie Post. in 1996 John appeard in the critically acclaimed SlingBlade While John was continuing in his carrer, Three's Company had hit syndication by that time ,and had begun to appeal to a whole new Generation. First on TBS in the mid to late 80's thru the 90's then in 2000 Three's Company made it's long awaited debut in reruns and a marathon on Nick at Night( it's current home).Even With John giving his voice for promo's. John also has supplied the voice to childrens favorite Clifford the Big Red Dog". By 2002 John was ready to make his big return to televison , once again on ABC, the show became 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter, co- starring with Katey Segal as a protective father. The show beame an instant success, and once again John became the juggurnaut for ABC's prime time tuesday lineup ,and 8 Simple Rules during it's first season became Abc's number 2 highest rated show. Sadly though while taping for the second season ,on Thusday Sept 11 2003, John became ill on the set of the show and was taken to the hospital , and shortley after was pronounced dead at a near by hospital of a rare undected heart condition known as a dissection( dissecting) of the Aorta. Henry Winkler his long time friend was on the set to play his boss for the coming season. And John's wife Amy and son Jason were by his side when he passed away. John will be missed beyond words and comprehension. As a fan of his , I dedicate this site to all that he did and who he was. He touched many peoples hearts and funny bones., and will always be embetted in my heart. His memory will go on for years to come on tv and in our hearts. Until we all see you up in your rendezous.
